Darie and Sam really just trusted me, and I can’t thank them enough for that. Their Montesacro wedding in Brooklyn was full of color, joy, and truly abundant love. Their community was so special, so supportive, and so close to them, and being given the opportunity to bare witness to all of it, I’ll forever be grateful for. There’s something about Brooklyn restaurant weddings that really stands out from the cookie-cutter traditional wedding venue. Maybe it’s the nontraditional setup itself; there’s no “formula” really (everything was built around the food and when it would be served). I think it fosters a sense of community and gathering much more than your typical warehouse blank slate, and I think the actual small-ness, tight-knitness of the space itself also fosters this: there’s no where else to be but “together”, no lines at the bar, no seating in the second room over.
This colorful wedding at Montesacro in Williamsburg is a pretty perfect example.
The whole day had this really fun, deeply personal energy that really made it feel less like a “wedding” and more like the celebration of life, love, and community that I truly believe a wedding should be.
If you’re searching for a restaurant wedding in Brooklyn because the idea of a traditional wedding venue makes you want to run in the opposite direction, I totally get it, and I know the choices can be really overwhelming. Sometimes a blank canvas can leave you with too much space for “sameness”, and picking a space that already has the feeling of what you’re going for can really help this.
That was one of my favorite things about this wedding. Montesacro already has so much going on visually, so there was no need to really add much other than the phenomenal floral design by Emmy. The colors, the textures, the greenery, the restaurant atmosphere, it all gave the day a really specific sense of place. Instead of covering that up in an attempt to make it look more traditionally “wedding,” the couple put their own spin on it and it really made it feel so much more personal. The menus and graphic designs were also all done by the bride herself!
The Williamsburg location has the restaurant and bar atmosphere you’d expect, along with a conservatory-style garden space that brings in tons of natural light and greenery. The space is also available for private events and full buyouts, so it can work for couples who want something more intimate and restaurant-driven rather than a giant conventional venue. I really liked that we had use of the patio space outside, the entry space with the bar, and then also the garden out back. While it’s a small space, it worked to allow room for everyone to mingle and also bring the entire guest list together when it made sense.
That makes it one of those wedding spaces in Brooklyn that I think is worth putting on your list if you’re looking for something with personality and just truly good, good food. You’re not starting with an enormous empty room and asking yourself how you’re going to make it feel like you, and it still leaves so much room for you to put your own personal touch on it!
Darie & Sam hired me for full day wedding coverage, coverage of their after party, and for super 8 videography, and I’ll share a glimpse of their gallery below for some Montesacro brooklyn wedding inspiration.
