Jennifer and Dj were so intentional in planning. Jenn is a detail queen, and along with Rita Rose Events (Amber is one of my faves, so if you need a wedding planner with a unique eye for styling and design, she’s your gal), planning a Colorado mountain wedding that felt like a homecoming for all of their guests. Their Colorado mountain wedding venue of choice was Bison Peak Lodge at Puma Hills, and I’ll be honest, this one is a hidden gem.

I didn’t even know this place existed, and that’s saying a lot from a Colorado wedding photographer that has shot all over this state. Bison Peak Lodge at Puma Hills essentially used to focus on retreats and other gatherings, and weren’t necessarily a Colorado mountain wedding venue until recently, now that they’ve done a huge remodel and essentially set up the space for this!

It’s setup with their modern lodge in the middle of the property, and a long road drives up through and past, creating two separate vistas where there is additional lodging and the ceremony space up on the hill. The ceremony space overlooks the mountains at the highest point of the property and is absolutely stunning. Pro lighting tip from a wedding photographer who cares: the ceremony space DOES face into direct sun on a summer afternoon, therefore if you want to avoid this for your ceremony, I’d suggest a timeline that utilizes sunset for softer lighting here. Jenn and Dj lucked out, because they had cloud cover for their ceremony that lifted for their evening reception, and it was perfect. For their reception, they held theirs in the upper vista tent, but you could also use the lodge itself for a smaller group! And I know you’re jealous you weren’t there for emo hour: skip to the end to see Jenn and Dj surprise everyone with emo jams and temporary tattoos!!!
