Lo and Ian invited me to their home in downtown Denver for a cozy Colorado engagement session, which I absolutely loved considering almost everyone else wants to frolic in the mountains instead! We spent a few hours together listening to their favorite records, dancing in the living room, and hanging out with their fur baby. Music is a big part of their lives, and they even had live music at their wedding ceremony the following year, if you want to look through their wedding gallery, too!

Lo and Ian’s Colorado engagement session was unique and nontraditional, just like their love story. They wanted their photos to capture their alternative style and love for film photography. It’s always such an honor when folks trust me enough to invite me into their lives for this chapter but also their home, and I had just the best time with these two. In order to get images like these, Lo and Ian were booked clients with me already; I exclusively offer engagement sessions only to my booked couples and spend hours with them (sometimes 2-4!!!) to actually spend the time hanging out, getting to know each other, and showcasing a fun date night together in a nontraditional way (outside of just posing in front of a camera for an hour like the traditional engagement session would require).

Colorado engagement sessions sometimes turn predictable: most everyone wants an outdoor mountain session, either in the fall or winter. While these can be gorgeous, as a nontraditional wedding photographer, my favorite part of documenting love is getting to see the unique ideas that each couple has to showcase their personalities, and in this case, Lo and Ian spent their engagement session wanting to showcase their love for music, their cat, their home and their life together. It was perfect.
