Alexa, play “Dance, Dance”!!! Kacee and Adam had one of my favorite nontraditional wedding days to date, and it’s all because they spent so much intentionality in planning. They chose Skylight Denver as their Denver wedding venue, which basically is a clean, modern, blank slate with natural light (a photographer’s dream) and some rad graffiti and art walls as portrait options downtown, perfect for a nontraditional couple that wants to ensure they can put their own spin on things.

I loved the way Kacee planned their timeline, as it emphasized the best of my documentary photography style for a true, candid documentation of their day. They completed setup earlier in the day (and it sounds like during off season, Skylight allows for a half-day booking to save on some funds), and I arrived around ~4pm to start with capturing quick details and getting ready bits. We didn’t opt for any traditional “getting ready photos”, and instead I grabbed candid snaps as Kacee got dressed and added final details.

The couple loved Skylight Denver because of all the space it offered, and they started with a u-shaped dinner design for the tables. They invited about 40 of their closest friends and family for a sit-down dinner, where everyone was also seated for their ceremony. Instead of a traditional ceremony setup, they said their vows in the middle of the dinner area, and it was so casual and perfect. Beforehand, they also said private vows in the getting ready suite, and this was all done before they re-joined the party!

They spent the rest of the night dancing under the disco ball light, enjoying a second round of dinner and late-night pizza, and it was one of the most fun parties I’ve been to!!! I miss this day so much, can we go back?

SKYLIGHT DENVER VENUE

PROS: Clean slate, natural light, white walls, room for a catering truck and easy delivery, and located in downtown Denver for easy access to all sorts of bars and restaurants for after party and portrait opportunities

CONS: Not many, but as a photographer, I would emphasize on using the light in the best way; if the skylight isn’t lighting from the right direction, this can make your photos tough to capture. Make sure that your photographer is fully aware of how to shoot in these conditions!
