Nicole & Cameron
hey, i finally started a blog! i heard this is what the cool kids were up to, so here i am. mostly, i’m here because this elopement was so gorgeous, that is deserved to be shared.
look, i know you don’t want to read the typical let-me-tell-you-about-my-family-in-five-pages-of-paragraphs-before-i-give-you-the-recipe-instructions-you-were-looking-for kind of blog. and let’s be real – most of my couples aren’t actually going to read the blogs i write about them; they don’t need to read through paragraphs of how rad i think they are, they already know because believe me, they’ve had enough of me telling them! no – you’re here because you want to creep on some detailed work of mine, find resources to help you plan your epic elopement day, and hopefully have some questions answered along the way – and you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what i’m here to do!
nicole & cameron’s elopement day started at the cutest little a-frame in alma, colorado. past blue river in breckenridge off hwy 9, the little town features mostly residential vacation homes and can be a great option for an air bnb in the area if you are looking to stay out of breckenridge due to tourist traffic / busy season. the best part? this started off as a styled elopement shoot, to help showcase what a winter elopement in colorado could look like, and turned into a real, spontaneous elopement for them!
many couples overlook the winter season and put their elopement off to the summer time, but there are SO many reasons to move things into the winter months!
x less people – many tourists, if in town, are skiing and less likely to be on the trails!
x snow! feb-april are some of our snowiest months, and offer a winter-wonderland experience
x it’s cheaper! believe it or not, even though folks are coming to colorado to ski, the winter months are some of the most affordable to travel here, as flights will double in price over the summer months!
we spent the morning getting ready in the a-frame, getting detailed shots of their wedding attire and wedding details, and packing gear to head up the pass.

some background on this day… their elopement took place over Valentine’s weekend on monday, february 15th, and it. was. so. cold. colorado spent the entire weekend in negative degree temperatures – something we don’t get very often (i hear you laughing, chicago-land friends) – and on this particular day, it was in single digits and extremely windy.
one of the best parts of having a colorado elopement photographer by your side? i have a plan a, b, and c for your elopement day. but we have to be wiling to roll with the punches, because colorado’s weather can be unpredictable, and there’s only so much we can do. in this case? we chose a lower location than originally planned, and used the trees to help block the wind. just before sunset, we parked at hoosier pass and headed up the trail in snow shoes on some fresh powder for their first look.

we continued up the trail and set up the perfect elopement spot, digging out a perfect circle for their ceremony location. after exchanging their surprise vows – yep, on the spot, they decided they’d turn this styled elopement into a real ceremony – they popped champagne and celebrated with some to-die-for cake pops. in true colorado-fashion, a dream winter elopement was born.
