As a Midwest wedding photographer, I’ve shot my fair share of engagement sessions, but let me tell you, Emma and Danny’s session was exactly what I was looking for when I washed back up in my hometown for the best reasons. These two lovebirds wanted something that screamed “adventure” and “badassery” and that’s exactly what we got when we hit the streets of their small town in Illinois, and they brought their motorcycle with.
When they approached me with the idea of shooting their engagement photos on their motorcycle, I was all in and so excited to showcase their love doing an activity that means a lot to them, showcasing how they spend most of their weekends together!
We decided to shoot in the gritty and charming back roads of their town, and then head to their favorite dive bar downtown. As a Midwest wedding photographer, I’ve shot engagement sessions in a variety of settings and all over the state of Illinois (it’s my home state, after all), but there’s something special about showcasing a couple doing an activity that they truly love, in the place where they live and spend their life together; the motorcycle was just a special add-on. It adds an element of excitement and adventure that’s hard to replicate in other settings. The wind in Emma and Danny’s hair, the roar of the engine, it all adds to the raw energy of the photos.
We started the session at the edge of town, with Emma and Danny revving up their motorcycle, ready to hit the road. I had them lean in close, with Emma’s arms wrapped tightly around Danny, as they looked into each other’s eyes. The photos capture the love and excitement they share for the open road and for each other.
As we made our way through the streets, we stopped at various iconic locations to capture more photos. At the local dive bar, Emma and Danny sat on the hood of their motorcycle, with the neon sign of the diner illuminating the background. The photo captures the couple’s love for each other and the small-town charm of the location.
Throughout the session, Emma and Danny were full of laughter and love. They were truly in the moment, enjoying each other’s company and the adventure of the motorcycle ride. Their joy and excitement is evident in every photo, and it’s a reminder that love is truly an adventure.
As an Illinois wedding photographer, we talked about their benefits of later getting married at home, or even the option to possibly run off to meet me in Colorado and elope, and what those options could look like. These photos are going to make one badass wedding album, and I can’t wait to see how they decide to actually tie the knot. The photos are a perfect blend of the raw energy and emotion of the couple’s love story and the unique charm of the Illinois landscape.
Overall, Emma and Danny’s engagement session was a true reflection of their love for each other and their passion for adventure. It’s a reminder that when it comes to engagement photos, it’s all about being creative and thinking out of the box. And as a Midwest wedding photographer, it’s my job to capture the raw and unique love story of each couple. Emma and Danny’s engagement session was a prime example of that, and I can’t wait to see what adventures they have in store for their wedding, but most importantly, their future together. So stoked I was able to be part of capturing these memories with these two.
